Chief is Blessed

July 27, 2017

(Oglesby, IL) – Chief (Gerald Savage) White Winnebago, of the Ho Chunk Nation blessed Starved Rock Lodge’s newest trolley during a ceremony held today at 2:00 p.m. in front of the historic Lodge. Activities Director, Edna Daugherty, invited the Chief to lead the blessing because he and his family have a strong connection that goes back to the 1950’s when Savage’s grandfather, Chief (Sam Sine) Walks with the Wind had an archery training business and souvenir shop. Over the past several years, Savage has led drum circles and tributes to his family hoping to share the Native American stories and songs of his people. Daugherty led the Activities Department 16 years ago when the first trolley was acquired. Custom-made by the Hometown Trolley Company of Crandon, Wisconsin, this is the sixth trolley to offer a fun way to see eagles, waterfalls, canyons, fall colors, the IL Waterway Visitor Center, downtown Utica and more. “We are so happy to have a new and bigger trolley in our fleet,” said Daugherty, “Our guests think it’s such a great experience to ride on a trolley and we agree!”
