Starved Rock State Park is one of the best destinations for hiking in the Midwest. We know that our guests love to come here to see the natural beauty of the park, but there’s so much more to see and do. If you’ve never been here before, we suggest a guided hike and a Historic Trolley Tour. We other seasonal Trolley Tours, musical tribute shows and many fun activities and events, many of which are free of charge. Starved Rock Lodge and State Park attracts over two million visitors each year. Come and explore this jewel in the crown of LaSalle County!

4th Saturday of each month. 9am-Starved Rock Lodge Parking Lot Whether you are just beginning in photography, are an advanced amateur or a professional, you are welcome to the Starved Rock Photography Club. Monthly photography walks at Starved Rock State Park’s Lodge with club leader, Jacki Pienta. The Photography Club will meet each month throughout the year for guided walks to planned sites for photography opportunities. Members will informally exchange ideas and tips for quality nature and wildlife photos. We will meet the 4th Saturday of every month at 9am in the back of the Large Parking Lot at Starved Rock Lodge. Guided Winter Hikes are offered every Saturday & Sunday from December-March. Hikes run from 11:00-2:00 pm. Price: $12 per person. Join us for a guided hike with the possibility of seeing frozen waterfalls & Bald Eagles in flight!  We’ll hike from Starved Rock Lodge to LaSalle Canyon.  Participants meet in the hotel lobby of the Lodge to pick up a snack and a “Starved Rock” backpack.  After leaving LaSalle Canyon, the hike continues to Eagle Cliff and Lover’s Leap for the best view of the majestic Eagles.  The tour concludes at the Lodge about 2:00 pm.  Please dress appropriately for the weather and wear proper footwear. Enjoy a historic trolley ride and see Starved Rock at the same time!  Board one of our fun trolleys outside the Great Hall area of the Lodge. Travel to the Starved Rock State Park Visitor Center, where you’ll watch a short video about the area. Your tour also includes a visit to the Illinois Waterway Visitor Center, where you can see Starved Rock from across the river and watch barge traffic travel through the locks. You’ll also travel through the village of North Utica and hear about the Illinois & Michigan Canal. While aboard, the driver will share the rich history and legends of the area. Discover different species of the invasive Asian Carp and their distinguishing characteristics. Brennan Caputo, Natural Resources Coordinator for I.D.N.R., will discuss why they are such a problem and what the Department of Natural Resources is doing to control the movement and population of Asian Carp. This event will take place at the Starved Rock Visitors Center!

Every Thursday (year round) Join the fun on our weekly, guided hikes! Explore Starved Rock State Park, Matthiessen State Park, the I & M Canal and a nearby Nature Preserve. Every Thursday morning, year round, the Starved Rock Walkers Club  meets in the lobby of the Lodge and departs at 9:00 am. Hikes last between 2 and 3 hours, depending on the destination. The hikes vary each week and over a 4-month period, the group will see the entire park.  Make some new friends and learn about wildlife, wildflowers and more.
