Starved Rock State Park is one of the best destinations for hiking in the Midwest. We know that our guests love to come here to see the natural beauty of the park, but there’s so much more to see and do. If you’ve never been here before, we suggest a guided hike and a Historic Trolley Tour. We other seasonal Trolley Tours, musical tribute shows and many fun activities and events, many of which are free of charge. Starved Rock Lodge and State Park attracts over two million visitors each year. Come and explore this jewel in the crown of LaSalle County!

Ottawa Canyon in the Fall
Every Saturday in October, our Fall Colors Trolley Tours have two departure times. The 9:30 am tour begins with Trolley Tour and guided hike and ends with lunch at 12:00 pm at Elements Restaurant. The second departure starts with lunch at 11:00 am and the Trolley Tour and guided hike follow. Enjoy Starved Rock during the most beautiful time of the year. Tour includes a relaxing trolley ride, hot lunch in our rustic dining room – Elements -and a guided scenic hike to Council Overhang and Ottawa Canyon. Please be sure to wear appropriate shoes as the trails are not paved. There is some hiking involved with this tour. Tour is not recommended for individuals with limited mobility. Guided hikes with lunch are offered by Starved Rock Lodge on Saturdays and Sundays from April through November.  Participants meet in the Hotel Lobby to pick up a lunch and a souvenir  “Starved Rock” backpack. Our friendly guides from Starved Rock Lodge will share their knowledge of Starved Rock State Park (named a National Historic Landmark in 1960) and Starved Rock Lodge (named to the National Register of Historic Places in 1985). Our guided hikes are classified as strenuous.  Please dress for the weather and wear appropriate (waterproof) shoes.  Lunch includes your choice of turkey, ham or peanut butter and jelly; bag of chips; home-made granola bar; piece of fruit; and a bottle of water.  Please bring extra water in hot…Read more

Don’t miss a rare chance to hike to the top of Starved Rock at night!  On Saturday, October 25th (from 5:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.) you can hike the luminary lit trail to the top of Starved Rock while listening to “ghostly” fun stories and meet ‘The Pink Lady’.  Following hikes, enjoy storytelling with local storyteller Bill Myers.Hikes will leave from the Starved Rock Visitor Center at 5:00 p.m. & 6:00 p.m. each lasting one hour.  Storytelling will start at 7:00 p.m. and last one hour.  Kids’ crafts!  Program is free! Fireside Stories at Starved Rock
Saturday Nights July-October 7pm Fox Ridge Many different storytelling events are held under the pines at Fox Ridge, our outdoor education & entertainment venue, across from the main doors of the Lodge. Campfire Stories are every Saturday night throughout October. Join us and some of the Illinois Valley’s most engaging storytellers as they share stories, legends, facts and fiction around the fire.  Audience participation is welcome so be ready for some fun! Storytime starts at 7:00 pm. Come and sit around the campfire and share your own stories as well as listen to stories told by professionals. Don’t worry about the snacks.
