Starved Rock State Park is one of the best destinations for hiking in the Midwest. We know that our guests love to come here to see the natural beauty of the park, but there’s so much more to see and do. If you’ve never been here before, we suggest a guided hike and a Historic Trolley Tour. We other seasonal Trolley Tours, musical tribute shows and many fun activities and events, many of which are free of charge. Starved Rock Lodge and State Park attracts over two million visitors each year. Come and explore this jewel in the crown of LaSalle County!

Every Thursday (year round) Join the fun on our weekly, guided hikes! Explore Starved Rock State Park, Matthiessen State Park, the I & M Canal and a nearby Nature Preserve. Every Thursday morning, year round, the Starved Rock Walkers Club  meets in the lobby of the Lodge and departs at 9:00 am. Hikes last between 2 and 3 hours, depending on the destination. The hikes vary each week and over a 4-month period, the group will see the entire park.  Make some new friends and learn about wildlife, wildflowers and more. This event was founded in 1989 by Roseann Rossi and Pat Picco, two Christian women in the Illinois Valley who had a desire to use our beautiful Starved Rock State Park for the glory of God. They invited several women from various Christian churches to pray for guidance and come to meetings in their homes if they felt led to be involved in forming an interdenominational Christian women’s retreat. Thus, Retreat to the “Rock” was birthed. Twelve ladies from various churches and backgrounds prayed, visited other retreats and called upon Winsome Women retreat from Winona Lake, Indiana to help them get started. Guided Winter Hikes are offered every Saturday & Sunday from December-March. Hikes run from 11:00-2:00 pm. Price: $12 per person. Join us for a guided hike with the possibility of seeing frozen waterfalls & Bald Eagles in flight!  We’ll hike from Starved Rock Lodge to LaSalle Canyon.  Participants meet in the hotel lobby of the Lodge to pick up a snack and a “Starved Rock” backpack.  After leaving LaSalle Canyon, the hike continues to Eagle Cliff and Lover’s Leap for the best view of the majestic Eagles.  The tour concludes at the Lodge about 2:00 pm.  Please dress appropriately for the weather and wear proper footwear. Enjoy a historic trolley ride and see Starved Rock at the same time!  Board one of our fun trolleys outside the Great Hall area of the Lodge. Travel to the Starved Rock State Park Visitor Center, where you’ll watch a short video about the area. Your tour also includes a visit to the Illinois Waterway Visitor Center, where you can see Starved Rock from across the river and watch barge traffic travel through the locks. How about beer?  If you love wine or craft beer, join us March 7, 2015 for our third annual “Between the Canyons” Wine & Craft Beer tasting event!  We will feature wines from Starved Rock Cafe, Cattails, Illinois River Winery, August Hill Winery, Mackinaw Valley Vineyard, Creekside Vineyards Winery, Waterman Winery & Vineyard, White Oak Vineyards, Prairie State Winery, Wirtz Beverage and others.  Euclid Beverage will be featuring select Leinenkugel and craft beers.
