An event to honor Chief Walks with the Wind of the Ho Chunk Nation, as told by his grandson, White Winnebago – Jerry Savage. Mr. Savage grew up performing Native American dancing at Starved Rock Lodge with his grandfather, Chief Walks with the Wind and family. The event will begin with a song followed by a smudge blessing and stories of Chief Walks with the Wind and his family along with Native American history from Starved Rock Lodge’s days gone by.
Sam and Ruth Sine came to Starved Rock State Park in 1935 to perform Native American Stories and programs at the Lodge and continued for nearly 50 years. The Sine family also ran an archery range and souvenir stand in the park. This tribute to Chief Walks with the Wind will take place in the Great Hall of the Lodge. This event is free and open to the public. Donations are welcome to help continue to bring quality programming to Starved Rock Lodge.
