Guided Winter Hikes from Starved Rock Lodge
There’s no better way to see the Winter Wonderland at Starved Rock than with a guided, Winter Hike. Offered every Saturday and Sunday from December through March, the hike is about 4.5 miles round trip. These hikes depart from the Lodge (Hotel Lobby) at 11:00 a.m. and returns to the Lodge at approximately 2:00 p.m. Some of the amazing thing’s you’ll see (if cold temperatures allow) are frozen waterfalls and American Bald Eagles in flight. When conditions are right, you’ll see ice climbers in some of the canyon, too! We’ll hike from the Lodge to LaSalle Canyon, which is beautiful in every season of the year, but particularly in winter. Upon departure, you’ll pick up a snack (a homemade granola bar and bottled water) and a “Starved Rock” drawstring backpack. You’ll also get a voucher for small hot chocolate or coffee in our Cafe upon your return. After leaving LaSalle Canyon, the hike continues to Eagle Cliff and Lover’s Leap for the best view of bald eagles and the Illinois Lock & Dam. Please dress appropriately for the weather and wear proper shoes or boots. In the event of ice and snow, we advise Yaktrax for extra traction on your shoes. Remember to bring your binoculars and camera. Cost: $12 per person. Make a night of it! Click here to book your overnight stay. Advanced reservations are required as space is limited.
