- Starved Rock State Park is the largest state park in Illinois
- The original cost of the Great Hall, Dining Room, and Pioneer Cabins only cost $250,000
- There are eighteen different canyons and waterfalls and twenty four different woodcarvings throughout the Lodge area
- Starved Rock received its name after a group of Illiniwek Indians starved to death atop of the rock during a battle in the 1760's
- At one time, there were four different Indian tribes in the area…the Illiniwek, Potawatomi, Fox, and Ottawa
- There are many different kinds of wildlife that can be viewed in the park, including white tailed deer, cottontail rabbits, raccoons, flying squirrels, red-tailed hawks, wild turkeys, bald eagles
- Starved Rock Lodge was built in the 1930's by the Civilian Conservation Corps, a federal work program for men during the depression
- Starved Rock State Park is one of three state parks located in the area…the other two are Mathiessen and Buffalo Rock
- There have been two major renovations of the lodge, one of which added a new wing of rooms and the swimming pool/sauna
- After a long hike, you can enjoy a therapeutic massage at the Starved Rock Lodge
- Starved Rock's multimillion dollar Visitor's Center opened in 2002 and contains historic displays, a concessions stand, aquarium, and movie theater
- The Great Hall in the lodge contains a very unique, massive, double-sided fireplace
- In the late 1600's, the French settlers Father Marquette and Louis Joliet formed trading villages in the area and also built Fort St. Louis on top of Starved Rock
- Starved Rock Lodge offers trolley tours of the area and trolley rentals either on Ranger the Trolley or Rita the Trolley
- In addition to the 72 guest rooms and 22 cabin rooms, the lodge also serves as a conference center with the ability to accommodate 250 people
- There are many different sports available to visitors in the area including boating, fishing, horseback riding, biking, canoeing, white water rafting, hiking, and ice climbing and cross country skiing during the winter
- Starved Rock State Park is located along the Illinois River, which forms at the junction of the DesPlains and Kankakee rivers. Flowing 272 miles through North Central Illinois where it joins the Mississippi River at Grafton
- Starved Rock State Park includes over 2700 acres and has almost sixteen miles of hiking trails throughout the park
- The Starved Rock area offers many different shopping districts, including the lodge's café, gift shop and concessions stand, as well as the Country's Edge Mall, Cattails Gift Shop and shopping and wineries in downtown Utica, Ottawa, and LaSalle
- The Starved Rock Lodge Dining Room is open daily for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and also serves a fabulous Sunday Brunch
- Starved Rock State Park and the lodge are open 365 days a year
- Many special events are planned each year in the Starved Rock area, including the Honor the Eagle Pow Wow, Utica's Burgoo Festival, Vintage Illinois Wine Festival, Fall Colors Weekend, Montreal Canoe Weekend, as well as dinner theaters, group tours, and various packages throughout the year
