For the Love of Starved Rock

Amy Trimble, President/CEO, Starved Rock Lodge

As we move in to the holidays, we stop and think about the meaning of the season and what we are grateful for. At Starved Rock Lodge, we are grateful for the beautiful state park that we are so privileged to work in. Each changing season brings us new wonders and joys. Whether it’s the breathtaking fall colors, magical snows, frozen waterfalls or spring flowers, we are so fortunate to be able to come to work every day in this amazing setting. Many of us spend a great deal of time in the park and on the trails even when we aren’t at work. We enjoy live music on the Veranda, we bring our families out for special occasions and treat our guests from out of town to a special event or activity.

Without the State Park and the millions of visitors who come here each year, there would not be a Starved Rock Lodge or the many businesses that surround us in LaSalle County. Businesses that we all benefit from whether through jobs, provided services or just pure enjoyment.

In the next year, a group of individuals will be kicking off a fundraising campaign called “For the Love of Starved Rock.” The Department of Natural Resources will create a list of projects that need attention in the park such as the rebuilding of bridges and improvement of trails. This campaign will let us, the employees, business owners, visitors and residents, show our gratitude to one of the largest and most visited parks in the state. It will allow us to become part of the solution in making sure that our park is here in the future and will help us in celebrating the natural area that provides us with the wonderful quality of life we have become accustomed to.

As projects are identified and money is raised, we hope that all of us here in Starved Rock Country will want to participate in the restoration of this great park. Whether it be through a sponsorship, a monetary contribution, a donation of materials or a donation of your time. Mark your calendars for March 8th, which will be the date of the first fundraising event in our campaign: a dinner hosted by Starved Rock Lodge and Tangled Roots Brewing Company. We will continue to post more information about this new project in the coming weeks as it becomes available.

We hope that you will join this effort in helping save our great park.
