For the Love of Starved Rock

January 27, 2020

In the next year, a group of individuals, in conjunction with the Illinois Department of Natural Resources, will be kicking off a fundraiser called For the Love of Starved Rock to help generate interest and monetary donations to improve park trails and preserve the natural resources for future generations.

There are three projects that need immediate attention:

  1. Creating an ADA accessible trail and scenic overlook
  2. Boardwalks and a bridge to open Tonti Canyon
  3. Boardwalks and clean up to help prevent the erosion of the LaSalle Canyon trail system

These three projects will cost an estimated $500,000.

This campaign will let us; the employees, business owners, visitors and residents show our gratitude to one of the largest and most visited parks in the state. It will also allow us the become part of the solution in making sure that our park is here in the future and will help us in celebrating the natural area that provides us with the wonderful quality of life we have become accustomed to.

On April 5th we will kick off the For the Love of Starved Rock campaign with a dinner hosted by Starved Rock Lodge, Tangled Roots Brewing Company, US Foods and several other local businesses. We hope that we can count on you to attend the dinner, send a monetary donation or perhaps provide a donation for our silent and live auctions. Tickets will be available to purchase in the coming weeks.

All monetary donations will be managed by the Starved Rock Country Community Foundation in Ottawa.

As projects are identified and money is raised, we hope that all of us here in Starved Rock Country will want to participate in the restoration of this great park. Whether it be through a sponsorship, a monetary contribution, donation of materials or donation of your time.
