After the rush of the holiday season is over, it’s time to enjoy the beauty of winter. Snow is in the forecast and Sled Dogs return for a live demonstration this Sunday, January 12th. Jason Hussong, director of Free Spirit Siberian Husky Rescue, will host interesting and educational indoor seminars in the Lodge’s LaSalle Room (10:30am and 1:30pm). What’s really fun to watch are the sled dogs themselves as they take off in the snow when their musher yells, “Yee!” These high-energy demos will be at 9:30am, noon and 3pm in the Visitor Center parking lot. Some of the dogs will be available for adoption, but please know that this breed needs a large area to run on a daily basis.

Throughout January and February, Eagle Watching Trolley Tours give you a chance to see America’s symbol of freedom, the American Bald Eagle, in flight. Part of your tour includes a stop at the Illinois Waterway Center where you can see eagles and other birds at the Lock & Dam along the Illinois River. For an up-close experience, come to Eagle Watch Weekend on January 25th and 26th.  Don’t miss the “Birds of Prey” show in the Starved Rock Room where several types of birds will fly overhead as you hear some wonderful stories about them. Tickets are free and available in the Great Hall on a first come basis starting at 8am. Check out all the exhibits in the Great Hall and purchase a $2 all-day wristband to ride our trolley and experience even more at the Starved Rock and IL Waterway Visitor Centers.

If you’re a music lover and love to sing, sign up to join the Rock Star Competition which run on four consecutive Thursday nights starting February 20. If you’d rather attend a matinee with lunch, get tickets to one of our “Tribute to the Stars” show. Either way, you’ll be entertained in the warmth of Starved Rock Lodge…where the past is always present.
