Celebrate Spring at Starved Rock Lodge

April 18, 2022

What a joy it will be to enjoy Mother’s Day (MAY 8, 2022) when we can get together in person this year. Signs of spring are popping up daily at Starved Rock State Park. So, it’s the perfect time to celebrate spring! Virginia Bluebells will soon blanket Illinois Canyon (in early to mid-May). If you’ve never been there before, put this canyon at the top of your list. Waterfalls and wildflowers are coming to life thanks to April showers. It’s a quick and easy hike to Council Overhang and Ottawa Canyon. Kaskaskia (pictured) and Illinois Canyons also located on the east side of the park.

Spring is lovely time of year to book a room or cabin at Starved Rock Lodge because temps are cool and great photos are waiting for you everywhere. In addition to priority parking, you can relax in the Lodge’s indoor pool (which features a giant lap pool, shallow-depth children’s pool, two saunas and a hot tub). But wait…there’s more…

The Lodge offers two great ways to see this one-of-a-kind destination. Waterfall & Canyon Tours run throughout April and May. This tour includes a ride on the Starved Rock Trolley and a hot lunch from our special menu.

Historic Trolley Tours run Monday, Wednesday and Saturday from 3-4:30 pm. Tickets are $15 for adults. Guided hikes depart from the Lodge each Saturday and Sunday at 10am. This hike includes a drawstring backpack with lunch. Reservations are necessary, so please book online or call (815) 220-7386.

The Lodge is now accepting reservations for our Mother’s Day Buffet on Sunday, May 8 (10:30am to 6:00pm). The price is $39.95 for adults and $19.95 for children under age 10. Reservations and pre-payment are required. The Lodge’s Gift Shop has a wide selection of gifts for mom from books, jewelry and beach cover-ups to Starved Rock hats, t-shirts and coffee mugs. The Starved Rock Café offers Artisan ice cream and fudge (made at the Lodge) along with Illinois-made wine and cute cooking accessories. Gift cards are available for purchase online or at the Front Desk.

Experience Illinois Sparkling Company’s award-winning, hand-crafted wines at a 4-course dinner on May 4. The Chefs of Starved Rock Lodge will team up with August Hill to create a spring-themed menu which pairs an appetizer, salad, entrée (gluten-free options) and dessert with the perfect sparkling wine. You’ll learn all about the featured wines and why they are paired with each course. Reservations are required. Guests must be 21 or older to attend.

Save the date for dad’s special day on Sunday, June 19th. Father’s Day gift ideas include a River Cruise on the Eagle 1 or tickets to a Tribute to the Stars Show. The “Unforgettable Songs of the 50’s” is set for June 7 and 8. If dad is a country music lover, then the “Cash, Conway & Brooks Legends” show is the way to go. Tickets are $55 per person. Matinees begin at 11:30am with check-in followed by a hot lunch buffet and an amazing performance. Call (815) 220-7386 for reservations.
