Delicious Prime Rib that’s locally sourced with a “secret spice” rub–smoked that day– sounds like a meal you don’t want to miss. This culinary special is available every Saturday night. Sunday Brunch (10am-3pm) offers a wide variety of choices to everyone in your group and it’s another reason to savor the flavors of Starved Rock Lodge—the only hotel located in Starved Rock State Park. Overnight guests get free, priority parking close to dining, comfy rooms or a cabin in the woods, an indoor pool and 13 miles of hiking trails. Instagram-worthy photos of scenic sandstone canyons are around every turn. As summer turns to fall, as the park takes on the hues of the season when the leaves turn from green to gold, red and brown.
New this fall, is “Yoga & Hike” which features a 75-minute yoga class and a 3 mile hike to scenic St. Louis Canyon. Yoga and Hike. Depart on September 25 at 9am or 12pm with Matt Hancock who has taught over 11,000 classes and is the owner of Hancock PowerFit Yoga (a yoga practice that’s focused on building the body’s strength and increasing endurance). Trolley Tours are offered each weekend, but pairing this tour with lunch and a river cruise is even better. There’s even a combo tour that includes a guided hike to see Council Overhang and Ottawa Canyon followed by a boat ride on the Illinois River. Fall Colors Trolley Tours (Tuesday & Saturday) and Autumn on the River Cruises (Monday, Wednesday & Friday) are offered in October. Guided Hikes (with a backpack lunch) are offered year ‘round.
The historic Great Hall comes alive each year when the Dusseldorfers music fills the air at the Oktoberfest Dinner (October 16) and Matinees (October 24 and 25). The menu features German favorites from Schnitzel to Strudel as well as German wine and beer. Guests can choose the full buffet, tastings, plus a souvenir stein for $55 per person or buffet only for $40 per person. Reservations are required.
Music lovers won’t want to miss “The Chairman’s Board” Tribute to the Stars Matinee (October 17 & 18) starring Tribute artist Peter Oprisko (an expert at performing hits from legends such as Frank Sinatra, Bing Crosby, Nat King Cole and many more. Tickets are $45 each and include a hot lunch buffet. The WWII Radio Show featuring songs from the Andrews Sisters and the 1940s radio era is set for November 14 and 15. Tickets are $55 per person.
