Autumn Fun at Starved Rock

September 11, 2023

Enjoy the crisp days of fall at Starved Rock Lodge! Book an overnight package to make the most of your adventure, where you can take in a sunrise or applaud a sunset. Choose the “Explore Starved Rock”, “Celebrate with us” or “Golden Getaway” package. All the details are on our website. Overnight guests at the Lodge get free, priority parking close to dining, comfy rooms or a cabin in the woods, an indoor pool and 13 miles of hiking trails. Instagram-worthy photos of scenic sandstone canyons are around every turn. More fall colors are appearing daily, as the park takes on the hues of the season.

New this fall! Enjoy a Sunset Cruise & Dinner on the Sainte Genevieve Riverboat. Choose from Thursday, October 5th or Thursday, October 19th. Guests board the trolley at the Lodge for a 4:30pm departure and head over to beautiful Ottawa, IL for a ride on the only paddlewheeler afloat on the Illinois River. After the cruise, the trolley will bring you back to the Lodge for dinner in our Main Dining Room. Reservations are required. Tickets are $75 per adult ($65 children).

Every Saturday night, delicious Prime Rib (that’s locally sourced) is available in the Main Dining Room.  It’s seasoned with a “secret spice” rub and smoked at the Lodge that day. Sunday Brunch (10am-3pm) offers a wide variety of choices to everyone in your group. Trolley Tours are offered each weekend. We highly recommend the Land & Water Cruise, Fall Colors Trolley Tour or Autumn on the River Cruise. There’s even a combo tour that includes a guided hike to see Council Overhang and Ottawa Canyon followed by a boat ride on the Illinois River. For a shorter river cruise, the Waterfowl Tour is the best choice. Guided Hikes (with a backpack lunch) are offered each weekend. Historic Trolley Tours depart at 3pm on Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 3pm and on weekends at noon and 1:30pm.

The historic Great Hall comes alive in October when German music from the Duseldorfers Band fills the air at the Oktoberfest Dinner (October 15) and Matinees on October 16 & 17. The menu features German favorites from Schnitzel to Strudel as well as German wine and beer. Guests can choose the full buffet, tastings, plus a souvenir stein for $60 per person or buffet only for $45 per person. Reservations are required.

Music lovers won’t want to miss the “Nashville Connection” Tribute to the Stars Matinee (September 19 & 20). Tickets are $60 each and include a hot lunch buffet. The Rod Stewart Tribute Matinne featuring Steve Bobbitt is October 23 & 24. Tickets are $50 per person. “The Beatelles” return for a dynamic tribute to the Beatles on October 23 & 24. Tickets are $50. An “Elvis Tribute” is set for November 6 & 7 and an “Andrews Sisters Musical Revue” will celebrate America’s Wartime Sweethearts on November 13 & 14. A limited number of tickets are still available for the Lodge’s annual Leinenkugel Dinner on Friday, November 10 in the Great Hall. Everything on the menu is made with Leinenkugel beer!

PowerFit Yoga’s Matt Hancock will lead a “Yoga & Hike” event on November 5th which features a 75-minute yoga class and a 3-mile (round-trip) hike to scenic St. Louis Canyon. Hancock has taught over 11,000 classes and is the owner of Hancock PowerFit Yoga (a yoga practice that’s focused on building the body’s strength and increasing endurance). Reservations are required.

Ghost Tours are back and the haunted stories won’t disappoint you! Board our trolley (if you dare) at 6 or 8pm on October 13-15, 20-22 or 27-29 and experience a night-time tour of the Starved Rock area with spirited guides to lead your way! Reservations are required.
