Mega-Hike Set for April 21, 2024

February 01, 2024

Have you ever wanted to hike all the canyons in the park? Well now you can do it in one day. There are 18 canyons at Starved Rock State Park. Many of them have seasonal waterfalls in the spring, so there’s no better time to explore this beautiful park. Hikes leave the Lodge at 9am. To start the hike, you’ll board our trolley with a pair of guides and be taken to the east end of the park where you will begin your trek. Our friendly guides knows the history of the park. You’ll learn about the geology of St. Peter Sandstone along with details on the many wildflowers that bloom here each year. You’ll also learn about the Mississippi Flyway and the migratory birds that pass through our bird highway on the Illinois River. The expected time for lunch is 1:30pm. Our suggestion is to pack plenty of water and light snacks to eat along the way. You may also want to bring an extra pair of hiking books and socks along with trekking poles or a walking stick. Hikers will return to the Lodge at 4:30pm. Trolley transportation is included along with guides, a boxed lunch and a specially designed shirt. Limited spots available. Entry fee is $40 per person. Pre-registration is required. Please call 815-220-7386 to join the adventure.
