Hope Rose Wins Country Showdown

July 14, 2017

(Oglesby, IL)- Hope Rose of Forest Park, Illinois was named the winner of the 2017 Country Showdown held last night on the Veranda of Starved Rock Lodge. Ten contestants performed two songs each and received critiques from judges during the first round. Judges were Eric Mills, Nathan Peterson and Jamie Melin. When Rose first took the stage, she sang “Tennessee Whiskey” (a country song made famous by Chris Stapleton) as she played guitar to a crowd of over 300. Her second song was an original she composed called “You Lied.” The judges and audience votes were combined to choose Rose and first runner up duo of “Easten & Kayla”. Easten Hoepker, from Nashville, IL also played guitar. She performed with her Illinois State University roommate, Kayla Haines of Seneca, IL. Rose now advances to the next level of competition to be held later this summer. If she wins, she has a chance at a recording contract in Nashville and an opportunity to perform on the stage of the Grand Old Opry. The Country Showdown was co-sponsored by Starved Rock Lodge, WALLS 102, Euclid Beverage and Dr. Ed Monroe.
