Rea Family Wins “Why Wait for the Weekend?” Contest on WQAD-TV

July 24, 2018

Lisa Rea entered the “Why Wait for the Weekend?” Contest on WQAD-TV because she knew her family would love a trip to Starved Rock. She was right! The family recently traveled from their home in Silvis, IL to Starved Rock State Park and Lodge to claim their prize package which included an overnight stay in a family cabin, four tickets for a Historic Trolley Tour and breakfast. The first thing they did was to hike to the top of Starved Rock. “I was so surprised that it only took 15 minutes to walk to the top,” said Lisa, “We have plans to hike as much as we can today to see as many canyons as possible!”

Starved Rock Lodge teamed up with WQAD earlier this spring to promote mid-week travel. With help from WQAD’s Good Morning Quad Cities morning anchor Jonathan Ketz, a 48-hour “Summer Road Trip” brought Ketz and his film crew to Oglesby for a two-day getaway. Ketz shared stories and video about  fun things to do here with early-morning live broadcasts from the Lodge. He also took a ride on the Eagle I river boat and visited Aurora and Sac Canyons. The Lodge reports that comment cards are showing up from  happy guests who stayed at the Lodge as a result of recent marketing efforts.
